Minister for Defence Tony Killeen, T.D., says he has received assurances from the Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs that funding for the Clare Women’s Network for 2010 has been ring-fenced and maintained at 2009 levels.
Minister Killeen recently met with the community development group at their Headquarters in Ennis and later made a representation to Minister Pat Carey on the level of funding being made available this year under the Local and Community Development Programme.
“I am pleased to say that funding for community development projects such as the Clare Women’s Network for 2010 has been ring-fenced and maintained at 2009 levels. In few other areas of public spending has it been possible to do this”, stated Minister Killeen.
He added: “There has been no reduction in the level of grant provided to the Clare Women’s Network, other than an adjustment in respect of positive balances held at year end, which would be normal. I would like to pay tribute to the Network for the valuable work it undertakes on a daily basis in ensuring all women are valued and included, and experience equality of opportunity at all levels of life-socially, politically and economically.”
In a letter to the County Clare Deputy, Minister Pat Carey outlined: “Currently, funding is provided to Projects under contract with the Department in January, May and September, The January and May payments issued from the Department as usual. However, the May funding was provided through Pobal, this is a new arrangement and some teething problems may have arisen which gave rise to the delay. This is to be regretted but I would expect it would not be repeated.”
