Images of Limerick City and County will be beamed into 50 million homes in 54 countries this Friday July 2nd at 7.30pm when Eurosport broadcasts a programme on the recent Strongman Champions League (SCL) Ireland event.
The event, which took place during the June Bank Holiday weekend, saw over 2,000 people flock to Limerick Racecourse to witness some of the world’s strongest men compete in the Irish heat of the competition. Danesfort Event Management, who brought SCL to Ireland, are already planning next year’s event.
Coverage of the event will be broadcast on 14 further stations including MTV, Al Jazeera and Sport TV Russia in the coming weeks.
Commenting on the upcoming broadcast on Eurosport, Gary Kirwan of Danesfort Event Management Ltd. said: “The 52-minute programme’s opening sequence features shots of Limerick with a brief introduction by presenter Caroline Pearce, a former Gladiator on the TV show of the same name. At a time when Limerick craves investment, this programme will provide global coverage of the City and County as a desirable tourist and business destination.”
Mr. Kirwan added: “We hope that with Limerick City being a European City of Sport for 2011 we can secure enough backing to keep SCL Ireland on Shannonside. It is clear from the numbers of people who attended the event and the upcoming international television coverage that Strongman is a sport enjoyed in Ireland, Europe and around the world.”
The reigning World’s Strongest Man Zydrunas Savickas from Lithuania was among 12 athletes, eight of whom were participants in the 2009 World’s Strongest Man competition, who took part in SCL on June 6th.
The event was sponsored by Batchelors and supported by Shannon Development, The Carlton Hotel Group, Squeeze and Limerick City Council.
