The countdown to the final stage of Sports AI’s TRI3 Series officially began today when the event was officially launched in Kilrush, County Clare.
The Tri3 Kilrush event is being staged by Sports AI in conjunction with Kilrush Town Council, Shannon Development and Clare County Council and will attract hundreds of competitors to the West Clare town on September 4th next.
The race will be the last in the series of three such events, which started in Galway City in May and will visit Cahir in Tipperary on July 10th next. The final event is expected to attract 500 competitors drawing in more than €200,000 to the local economy.
The race is open to all levels and will see participants from throughout Ireland and the UK travel to the West Clare town to swim in the local marina, bike the scenic coastline and run through the streets of the historic capital of West Clare to the finish line.
Officiating at this week’s launch was the newly elected Mayor of Kilrush, Cllr. Liam Williams and Kilrush Town Manager, Ms. Nora Kaye.
Commenting at the launch of the Kilrush stage, Tomás Madigan CEO of Sports AI - the Clare based sports management company that is overseeing the running of the race in Kilrush - said: “We are delighted to bring these events to Ireland and to see an injection into each local economy as a result of the races. The locations are great and we look forward to following the very successful leg in Galway City with exciting events in Cahir and Kilrush.”
Mr Madigan encouraged the residents and businesses of Kilrush to follow the example set by the people of Cahir by re-establishing a once popular town festival around the upcoming TRI3 Series event.
"We know that the people of West Clare and Kilrush in particular will match the family atmosphere and local welcome that the people of Cahir are planning when we visit there for Stage 2 of the TRI3 Series in Cahir. We know the fine people of Kilrush will go one better on September 4th”, he stated.
Mayor of Kilrush, Cllr. Liam Williams spoke about the many exciting events that will take place in the West Clare capital during the coming months, including the WIORA Yacht Championships and Féile Sona Festival which take place from 2nd – 4th July along with the Inis Cathaigh Traditional Music Festival in August and then the Tri3 Triathlon event in September.
Speaking at his first official function as Mayor of Kilrush, Councillor Williams said “ I am delighted for the people of Kilrush – both the business people and the wider community that this marvellous event is coming to Kilrush and I commend all who brought this venture to our town. I am aware that the number of participants who have already registered for the Kilrush event is very encouraging.”
He continued: “This event, along with the other festivals, will rejuvenate the town and bring business back to the west. I am confident that the existing partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce, Clare County Council, Shannon Development, Kilrush Tidy Towns and others will strengthen into the future and I look forward to seeing Kilrush prosper in the years ahead”.
