Clare County Council confirmed today that Irish Water Safety has completed a risk assessment of the beach in Kilkee, including particularly the diving boards and ladders.
The Council says it will review the findings and recommendations contained in the assessors report, which it is expected will be received during next week.
Mr Liam Griffin, Water Safety Officer, Clare County Council said: “Irish Water Safety has responded very promptly to the Council’s request to have an assessment carried out and the assessment took place over a 2 day period, and a number of key people in the area were given an opportunity to meet the assessor. Once the risk assessment report has been compiled and received, the findings and recommendations will be considered by Clare County Council. We expect to conclude such a review next week.”
“The diving boards and ladders were put back in place to enable the risk assessor to carry out his review. The diving boards have been removed once again pending the outcome of the Council’s evaluation of the assessor’s report, while the ladders have been left in position at the four locations concerned”, she added.
Ms. Kaye acknowledged the concerns raised by some members of the local community regarding the removal of the equipment, but added that every effort would be made to conclude the safety review in the quickest time possible.
