New Scheme Of Community Support For Older People

Clare T.D. and Minister Tony Killeen has warmly welcomed the Government’s announcement that the Scheme of Community Support for Older People is to replaced by a new programme of investment in community organisations throughout Ireland.

Dozens of County Clare groups have benefited under the scheme which encourages and assists the community’s support for older people by means of community-based grants to improve the safety and security of its older members. Only last week, Caring for Carers West Clare Group and Kilrush Family Resource Centre were awarded funding totalling €9,500.

According to Minister Killeen: “A comprehensive review of the Scheme of Community Support for Older People has highlighted the critical role the community and voluntary sector has had in the success of the Scheme.

“The investment of time, resources and goodwill by community and voluntary groups operating the scheme throughout the length and breadth of the country has been a key feature in this success and it is a testament to the spirit and commitment of volunteers in our communities”, added Minister Killeen.

“The ethos of the Scheme is centred on continued involvement with older people within our communities and I wish to congratulate the many organisations across Clare who continue to promote and foster community activity at local level”, he added.
