Limerick County Council has today erected closure notices on Plassey Bridge (known locally as the “Black Bridge”) over the River Shannon near the University of Limerick.
The Local Authority has expressed concerns over the safety of the pedestrian bridge structure. Members of the public are being advised not to attempt to use the pedestrian bridge to cross the river until further notice.
In addition the local authority is continuing to monitor water levels due to increased flows in the River Shannon. Limerick County Council has distributed sandbags in low lying vulnerable areas of Castleconnell, Mountshannon and Montpelier.
The Council wishes to remind people to avoid contact with flood waters and to check on any elderly or infirm neighbours. Parents are asked to be particularly vigilant with children.
