LIMERICK - Shane Geoghegan Trust Is Launched By Niall Quinn

The family of Shane Geoghegan (left) have launched a trust in Limerick aiming to provide children with an alternative to criminality.

Former Ireland soccer international and CEO of Sunderland FC Niall Quinn formally launched the Shane Geoghegan Trust this morning reports RTE News. Shane Geoghegan was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity in the early hours of 9 November last year as he made his way home from watching a rugby match with friends in Dooradoyle in Limerick.

The new Trust aims to provide children with an alternative to criminal or anti-social behaviour by making a range of sporting and cultural activities available to them. It is beginning with the Street Games project which will bring sports activities to children's homes. It will also have a creative workshop and the 'Club of Hard Knocks'.

The trust is based on the work of the Sunderland FC foundation which helps to engage children in vulnerable communities by getting them involved in sport.
