DUBLIN - Ballymun Fire Service Attacks Are Condemned By SIPTU

A union official representing fire officers has spoken out against a spate of attacks on crews.

John Kidd of SIPTU said many fire officers did not want to go into certain areas because of the threat to their lives. He appealed to parents and members of the community to ensure that Hallowe'en festivities were safe and that the work of fire crews was not interfered with.

The latest incidents came when two fire crews came under attack from stone-throwing youths at two separate fires in Ballymun in Dublin yesterday evening reports RTE. One unit attended the scene of a fire at a flat on Coultry Road at 6.45pm where they were attacked with stones by a gang of youths. Some fire equipment was also taken and gardaĆ attended the scene.
