Minister of State Tony Killeen T.D. has urged members of the public to participate in events taking place across County Clare as part of National Heritage Week 2009, which continues until next Sunday 30th August.
Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. Locally the event is co-ordinated by Clare County Council and the Heritage Council with support from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The theme of the 19th annual Heritage Week is 'Take Part In It, It's Part Of You'.
According to Minister of State Killeen: "While enjoyment is essential to the activities of the coming week it is also reassuring to see the emphasis on learning that is at the core of Clare Heritage Week. I am especially pleased to see that events are being hosted in every corner of Clare including Dromore, Bridges of Ross, Doolin, Ennis, Tulla, Scarriff, Quin and Dromoland."
The local Deputy added: "I wish to pay tribute to the many individuals and community organisations who have decided to participate in and contribute to Heritage Week 2009. I would like to commend Clare County Council and the organisers of dozens of events for encouraging a greater sense of ownership of and respect for County Clare's unique heritage."
"There is no doubt that Heritage Week has proven to be a wonderful vehicle for involving people across Clare in raising awareness of the role we all play in conserving and protecting our heritage for future generations. Furthermore, the events being held locally this week are a wonderful way for children to enjoy the end of their summer holidays before returning to school next week", concluded Minister of State Killeen.
