Four thousand electricians have today been put on protective notice because of the strike by members of the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU), according to the Construction Industry Federation.
The retaliatory move by employers is among the ripples spreading across the economy as a result of the strike by 10,000 members of the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union. The strike, which enters a second day this morning, is over non payment of an 11pc pay rise which the union says is overdue by two years.
In Clare yesterday, a TEEU picket was placed at the Moneypoint ESB Station, near Kilrush. A number of workers at the plant reportedly did not pass the picket but it was not clear how many. Meanwhile, electricians working on the new US pre-clearance facility at Shannon Airport also launched a protest.
