Jury fails to reach verdict in County Clare teacher trial

The jury in the trial of a County Clare teacher accused of sexual assault has been sent home overnight after it failed to reach a verdict on eight remaining counts of abusing two boys.

The 38-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was last week acquitted of 10 counts of sexual assault against a then 10-year-old boy, reports breakingnews.ie. The jury will continue their deliberations tomorrow in relation to the alleged assaults on two other children. It was day five of the trial and the jury have been deliberating for almost four hours.

The man had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 18 counts of sexually assaulting the three boys on dates between September 2002 and June 2004.
