Eircom's internet service was today hit by "unusual and irregular volume" of traffic.
In a statement issued to the Irish Times newspaper, Eircom said customers may have suffered delays in browsing, may have been unable to access the Internet, and "may have been redirected to incorrect websites".
The company said the problems were caused by "an unusual and irregular volume of internet traffic being directed onto our network" that affected systems and servers. Eircom added it was working on the issue and had implemented a number of software updates and hardware interventions to restore its internet service.
