Clare pharamacists give HSE taste of its own medicine

20 Clare pharmacists are among 700 nationally who gave notice to the HSE today that they will withdraw from the community drug schemes following cuts of up to 34pc in payments from the State.

This means that effectively half of all pharmacies in Clare will stop dispensing medicines on behalf of the HSE under the Medical Card Scheme and the Drugs Payments Scheme, starting from August 1.

The Irish Pharmacy Union said that many other its members are considering similar action and called on the Minister for Health and Children to enter talks with its members as soon as possible to avoid a medicines crisis.
