Fine Gael Councillor David Naughton has been appointed Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council for a one year term.
Councillor Naughton replaces Fianna Fail's John Gallahue as Chair. Councillor William O' Donnell is the new Leas Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council. He replaces Frances Foley. Fine Gael now has an outright majority of 15 members in the new council following the local elections of June 5.
Speaking at last evening's Council AGM, outgoing Cathaoirleach John Gallahue said: "During my time as Cathaoirleach, I have most enjoyed seeing the end results of programmes aimed at delivering significant improvements to community life throughout County Limerick. I was afforded the privilege of launching numerous worthwhile initiatives such as the Kilmallock Walled Town Project, the Mini-pitch scheme at Abbeyfeale, the Assistive Technology Service at Limerick County Library, an intercultural art publication involving over 75 schoolchildren from different cultural backgrounds, and the 17-acre Castletroy Park.
"I am confident that with an excellent team of staff, a supportive Council, and continued good relations with local communities and other agencies a great deal will continue to be achieved on behalf of the citizens of County Limerick during the coming year".
