Clare manager Mike McNamara will turn to James McInerney to fill the full-back spot against Tipperary in the Munster SHC semi-final next Sunday with Conor Cooney ruled out through injury, reports breakingnews.ie.
Cooney, last year’s U-21 captain, sustained an ankle injury on club duty a fortnight ago and will not be fit in time.
McNamara revealed that Newmarket clubman McInerney will now fill the role which has caused Clare problems since Brian Lohan’s retirement in 2006.
