County Council staff in Galway have gone on strike this morning as part of a dispute regarding the laying off of a number of staff yesterday.
Pickets have placed at council buildings across the county in response to the move. The council says it has no option but to lay off staff due to budgetary restraints, reports breakingnews.ie. However, SIPTU has accused management of acting unilaterally and says the strike action will continue until the laid off workers are reinstated.
