Thieves cut telephone and security wires before breaking into a shop and stealing cigarettes and about €7,000 in cash, the Irish Independent reports.
Gardai carried out a forensic examination at the Mace shop on the Quin Road in Ennis on Friday where the back door had been forced. The thieves had lifted a heavy manhole cover outside, and cut a one-inch cable carrying telephone wires, which rendered the alarm system useless.
Gardai could only say that the break-in had taken place between closing time at 9pm on Sunday and 6am yesterday, when the incident was reported.
