Up to 30 people in Shannon and Limerick are facing redundancy as a result of courier firm DHL's national cutbacks. It emerged on Thursday that DHL were to axe 320 jobs nationwide as it bids to scale back its packaging service in Ireland. Staff at its Limerick branch in the Galvone Industrial Estate have been told that 33 redundancies are to be sought between its warehousing base here, and in Shannon.
However, the courier company yesterday agreed to enter a process with SIPTU to look at cost-saving measures on a depot by depot basis that might avert some planned closures and reduce redundancies in the Republic.
