German supermarket group, Aldi, is to invest E100m in expansion in Ireland including the building of a new Irish distribution centre, creating 1,000 new jobs.The chain will create 400 in the construction of the Distribution Centre, 160 within the Distribution Centre on completion and 490 in the 35 new stores throughout the country. The 56,905 square metre facility will support Aldi's continued growth and expansion throughout Ireland, primarily servicing Aldi's southern stores throughout Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Clare.
22 of Aldi's current 67 Irish stores are located in the region. Construction of the facility will take 22 months to complete, with plans to open in early 2011.
