Bushypark Receives Funding

Minister of State and Clare T.D., Tony Killeen has welcomed the allocation of EUR74,470 to the Mid West Regional Drugs Task Force, under the Government’s 2009 Dormant Accounts funding for projects tackling homelessness and substance misuse.

The grant aid will be distributed to Tipp Regional Youth Service (€20,000), Southhill Family Resource Centre in Limerick (€9,550) and Bushypark Treatment Centre in Ennis (€44,920). Welcoming the allocation of funding to Bushypark, Minister Killeen said, “Bushypark has provided many years of invaluable service as a residential addiction treatment centre for those addicted to alcohol, drugs and gambling. I hope that the funding allocated to the centre will help individuals and their families recover from cocaine addictions and regain control of their lives.”

Minister Killeen added that tackling cocaine use and implementing the recommendations of the Report of the Working Group on Drugs Rehabilitation remained priorities for Government. He continued, “The Mid-Term Review of the National Drugs Strategy in 2005 identified the provision of family support services as crucial in delivering the strategic aim of reducing harm to families.”

“It is important that we continue to treat the problem of cocaine use as a serious threat to society. This funding will assist Bushypark Treatment Centre assist in developing vital services for those experiencing problems”, Minister Killeen concluded.
