Ryanair axe falls on Shannon

Ryanair is to cut 100 jobs at Shannon and reduce the number of routes from 30 to 25 in an effort to reduce losses.

It is also expected a further 700 support jobs will be lost at the airport.During a media briefing this week, Michael O'Leary Ryanair’s CEO blamed the €10 Airport tax introduced last October for having a "damaging impact" on bookings from March 30. He also said the move by the government was "tourism suicide".

The Ryanair boss said that traffic would fall by 40% at Shannon, resulting in a reduction of 700,000 passengers per year, reports the Limerick Post.
