Minister of State Tony Killeen T.D. has confirmed that grant aid has been allocated to St. Michael's Community College, Kilmihil to undertake fire safety works.
The Clare Deputy said he had received confirmation of the allocation from Batt O'Keeffe T.D., Minister for Education and Science. According to Minister Killeen, "I am delighted to be able to confirm the approval of grant aid for fire safety works to be undertaken at St Michael's Community College. The secondary school serves a large catchment area and has experienced a rise in student numbers in recent years. Therefore, it is imperative that the school building continues to house the most up-to-date facilities and equipment in the interests of the students and teaching staff."
He added, "The Building Unit of the Department of Education and Science will be in contact with the school authority shortly in relation to the amount of funding approved." The Minister noted that the grant allocation was the latest in a series of similar announcements involving ten other schools throughout County Clare.
"In recent weeks, the Department has allocated grant aid for small capital projects at Ennis Community College as well as Ballycar, St. Joseph's Cree, Quilty, Ruan, Inagh, Carron, Carrigaholt, Furglan and Clooney National Schools. The approval of funding for each of the projects is very positive news as some had believed that the current economic downturn would have led to a subsequent decrease in Government spending in this area," concluded Minister Killeen.
