Kilkee Community Alert Receives Grant Allocation

Elderly members of the local community in Kilkee have been provided with an early Christmas gift following the news that Kilkee Community Alert has been allocated EUR2,245 under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People.

John Curran T.D., Minister of State (with special responsibility for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy) at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, this week announced the approval of the grant allocation. This is the sixteenth tranche of funding in 2008. This Scheme is administered by local community and voluntary groups and is funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

Welcoming the news, Minister of State and Clare T.D. Tony Killeen said, “The Scheme aims to improve the security of older members of the community. Funding is available towards the once-off cost of installing socially monitored alarm systems and small items of physical security such as security lighting, smoke alarms, door chains, and window and door locks.” Under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People funding is available throughout the year, thus enabling applicants to apply as the need arises.
