The IFA has strongly criticised Galway and Clare County Councils and the National Roads Authority for their 'Scrooge-like miserly' treatment of landowners affected by the N18 Gort to Crusheen Motorway, Galway Bay FM reports.Speaking at a recent meeting in Gort, Roads Project Team Chairman Jer Bergin said farmers have had their lands compulsorily taken and the NRA are not prepared to provide finance and funding to pay farmers for the land.
The IFA official said it was completely unacceptable to have the construction firm, road engineers and Council staff all getting paid, while farmers are told that no funding is available to pay for the land which has been fenced off for the new motorway and which farmers no longer can use.
