Corofin man publishes new book on Killaloe

Corofin native Seán Kierse's latest book, "Land and People of Killaloe Parish" was recently launched at the Kincora hall Hotel.

Kierse came to Killaloe in 1959 and was Principal of the Boys' Primary School until his retirement in 1987.

Local history and the GAA are his two great interests. He holds a MA degree in History and local Studies from the University of Limerick. He has contributed articles to historical journals and in 1977 he won the 'Listowel Writers' Week' local history award for his paper on the Great Famine in the parish of Killaloe. Previous publicans from Sean include Historic Killaloe (1983); The Famine Years in the parish of Killaloe (1984); Education in the parish of Killaloe (1987); History of Smith O'Brien GAA Club (1991); Portraits of Killaloe (1995); Priests and Religious of Killaloe Parish (2000); The Killaloe Anthology (2001).

The paperback edition, which costs €25, is now on sale. A limited number of hardback copies (€40) are also be available.
