Clare Indie label releases original Xmas compilation album

An alternative mix of originally penned Christmas songs by Irish and international music artists has been digitally released.

Featuring David Kitt, Jape, Nina Hynes and 15 rising stars of the alternative music scene, “An Indiecater Christmas” is the fourth compilation album to be released by Indiecater Records. The record label, which is the brainchild of County Clare music blogger mp3hugger, has also recently re-released a number of classic Irish albums, including The Brilliant Trees - Friday Night, Sunbear – Sunbear, and Red Star Belgrade - Where The Sun Doesn’t Shine.

“‘An Indiecater Christmas’ is an alternative to the perennial Christmas songs we hear during the month of December”: explained mp3hugger. Commenting on the background to the new festive album, he said: “In July of this year, we invited music artists to compose original Christmas songs for inclusion on the new album. As a result, we received more than 50 submissions from artists throughout the world. All but four of the 17 featured tracks were recorded especially for this release. There are 3 Irish acts taking part including Jape, aka Richie Egan, who is tipped to be shortlisted for the Choice Music Award 2009.”

Tracks and artists featured in the new festive album include Nina Hynes - Twinkle; Jape and David Kitt- I Will Cry This Christmas; Kill Krinkle Club - Songs Of Noel (all Dublin, Ireland); Bill Baird - Christmas In Jail; Loxsly - Santa Got The Spins (both Texas, USA); Idaho - Santa Claus Is Weird (California, USA); The Winks - Action Figures (Montreal, USA); Venice Is Sinking - The Grey Line (Georgia, USA); My Teenage Stride - Is It Christmas Already?; Normandy - Merry Christmas, Blogosphere!; The Specimen - Wish It Would Snow; The Cloud Room - Melody, Like Snow (all New York, USA); The Very Most - This Year, Christmas Came November 4th (Idaho, USA); Remington Super 60 - Here Comes Christmas (Fredrikstad, Norway); Nonstop Everything - There Is No Santa, Little Boy (Pennsylvania, USA); Dora Flood - Coastal Winter (California, USA); and Track A Tiger - Once In The Wine (Illinois, USA).

According to mp3hugger: “Like other Indiecater releases, the purpose of this album is to introduce people to music they may not otherwise get to hear. It costs €6.50 and the majority of this goes back to the artists, so not only will you be dancing to a different drum this Christmas but you will also be giving these great bands a helping hand along the way.” Since its launch in June 2008, Indiecater compilations have received critical acclaim in the Irish Times, Irish Independent, Analogue Magazine, State Magazine and numerous music blogs. Tracks exclusively released by Indiecater have received air time on Phantom FM (Dublin), Clare FM and as far away as Radio 1 in New Zealand.
