Kilmihil (Clare) 4-6 - Knockmore (Mayo) 1-4A hat-trick of first-half goals paved the way for Clare side Kilmihil to be crowned VHI Healthcare All-Ireland Junior Ladies Club Football champions thanks to an 11-point win over Mayo's Knockmore at Tuam Stadium on Saturday.
According to the Irish Independent newspaper, Kilmihil signalled their intent for victory early on with Ailish Considine settling her side after she slotted a third-minute penalty to the back of the net, starting off a Kilmihil goal-scoring spree. Further goals from Eimear Considine and Denise O'Halloran saw the eventual winners build up a commanding 3-3 to 0-0 lead at half-time. Although facing into the second half with a 12-point deficit Knockmore battled bravely, with Áine Clarke slotting home a goal.
But despite Clarke and her team-mates Ciara McDermott (2) and Áine McClean all adding points to the Knockmore tally, an industrious Kilmihil weren't to be denied with Eimear Considine slotting home her side's fourth goal to seal All Ireland success for the Clare side.
