New talks are to take place over the weekend in an effort to head off a strike at Aer Lingus at Shannon in the run up to Christmas. They have been arranged by the Labour Relations Commission and will involve both management and unions at the airline, according to businessworld.ie. The strike has been threatened by the SIPTU union over plans by the company to outsource more than 1,000 staff posts.
Intervention by the LRC was sought by the National Implemention Body, which met both sides in the dispute earlier this week. The body suggested that the LRC should explore the possibility of alternative methods of achieving the cost cuts sought by the airline.
