A revolutionary new harbour costing €14 million has been completed on one of the Aran Islands. The development on Inis Meain used thousands of giant X-shaped concrete blocks which were cast from moulds by islanders, according to the Irish Times breaking news service. The environmentally-sustainable harbour will improve local transport access as well as promote business and tourism links.
The €14 million price tag for Cé an Chalaidh Mhóir included works such as dredging, the construction of a pier and breakwater, and parking facilities.
