Shannon misses out on Aer Lingus routes expansion

Aer Lingus has omitted Shannon Airport from plans announced today to introduce nine new European routes for summer 2009.

The new services include Dublin to Catania, Sofia and Newcastle; Cork to Lanzarote, Lisbon and Rennes; and Belfast to Milan, Munich and Lanzarote. Flights to these destinations went on sale this morning. As well as the new routes, the airline will increase frequencies on 17 of its most popular European routes including Paris, Faro, Edinburgh, Barcelona and Malaga. It also plans to operate more of its existing routes year-round and will next summer once again provide a service to the Black Sea resort of Bourgas.

The announcement brings to 12 the number of new routes launched by Aer Lingus in 2008, Bizplus reports.
