Former Labour TD Frank Prendergast has told the Liemrick Leader newspaper that if Aer Lingus reaches a deal on redundancies that is satisfactory to Shannon workers, it could pave the way for the reinstatement of the Heathrow link.Mr Prendergast, Mayorstone, is chair of the Shannon Airport Marketing Consultative Committee set up by former Transport Minister Michael Lowry in 1995 and which reports to the Mid Western Regional Authority.
Almost 300 Shannon-based Aer Lingus workers are facing the axe under a "radical" €74 million cost-cutting plan announced by chief executive Dermot Mannion last week, something the airline says is necessary for Aer Lingus' future viability.
