The decision not to rezone Cusack Park for commercial development has been described as a missed opportunity for local employment, Clare FM News reports today.A local business consortium had promised 1,000 jobs as part of a major new hotel, retail and entertainment complex to be developed on the site of Clare's historic GAA grounds, but Ennis Town Councillors voted to against rezoning the site this week. It means the planned development can't go ahead, though the issue may be revisited if the developers and the GAA come forward with a new site for a county stadium.
Clarecastle Councillor Bernard Hanrahan has criticised the move particularly at a time when new jobs are badly needed.
