The Atlantic Edge Exhibition at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience has been awarded Best Exhibition by the Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI). The award was accepted by Mark Leslie of Martello Media Design and Katherine Webster, Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience at the IDI 2008 Awards ceremony held at the Mansion House in Dublin. The award is one of a number already won by the visitor centre and exhibition.
Nominations for the IDI awards are assessed by an independent international jury of five design experts from around the globe. Mark Leslie, whose design company Martello Media, also picked up a further award for digital animation for the COSMOS Interactive Astronomy Centre at Blackrock Castle Co Cork and a commendation also in the category of Best Exhibition for “Strangers to Citizens – the Irish in Europe 1600-1800”, was delighted with the recognition by the IDI. “It’s particular gratifying to get such recognition for a judging panel from around the world which follows on from the award received from the UK at the Association of Heritage & Interpretation last year. The success of the Atlantic Edge exhibition at Moher is adding to opportunities for major projects for Martello Media around the world.”
Katherine Webster had this to say - “All of us here at the Cliffs are well aware that Atlantic Edge is a world class exhibition because visitors tell us that every day. But it’s nice to see that opinion reinforced by the Design industry in this award.”
A banner week for the Cliffs of Moher was rounded off perfectly with the launch on Friday night 10th October of the first art exhibition at the new visitor centre. Lahinch based artist, Phillip Morrison’s work is on display within the centre entitled “The Cliffs – a Different View”. Over 80 guests attended the launch event and the exhibition will run to the end of November inside the Atlantic Edge exhibition. Up to 75,000 visitors will have the opportunity to view Morrison’s striking and colourful works featuring the local scenes and some visitors may take a very special souvenir home with them as the original work is on sale along with signed prints of a selection of the pieces.
