A member of the Royal Western Yacht Club of Ireland (RWYCI) in Kilrush set sail in the Volvo round-the-world yacht race, from Alicante, Spain today.Property developer Ger O'Rourke, skipper of Team Delta Lloyd were back on the water and sailing four days after their yacht’s hull was damaged during the in-port race last Saturday.
Traversing five oceans and coming in contact with four continents, the new course for this Volvo event takes in an Irish stopover port for the first time. Not since NCB Ireland nearly two decades ago has an Irish entry faced the best sailors in the world.
