Gardai urge vigilance over North Clare break-ins

Gardai in Ennistymon are advising extra vigilance in the community following recent crimes against elderly people living alone.

Clare FM news reports that the incidents have taken place in the Belharbour and New Quay areas and saw substantial quantities of money stolen from senior citizens who allowed bogus trades-people into their homes under false pretences. One man was arrested following an incident in which a person posed as a healthcare worker to gain entrance, while other incidents involved bogus TV repairmen and tarmacadam workers.

Ennistymon Superintendent Gabriel O'Gara has described the incidents as a terrible attack on the vulnerable, and is advising people to make sure they know whom they are letting in.
