Crowe criticises owners of Burlington factory site

The management company at the old Burlington factory site in Gillogue, Clonlara, are refusing to go through the planning process, according to Cllr Cathal Crowe, after they were warned by Clare County Council to cease all unauthorised operations at the plant until they had sought to regularise their activities.

But the company claim they are doing everything in their power to resolve the situation, in order to save jobs at the plant, the Limerick Post reports. A probe into activities at the site began after the Gillogue Residents Association had complained about the movement of heavily laden trucks at unsocial hours, and the subsequent deterioration of the local roads network, as well as the unauthorised landing and storage of helicopters.

As a result of the probe, warning letters were sent to 13 companies operating at the plant, advising them to "cease all commercial activity immediately”.
