Amnesty sends rendition plea to US Presidential candidates

The Irish branch of Amnesty International is writing to the two US presidential candidates asking them to allow the Irish authorities to search US military planes at Shannon Airport.

The organisation says the Irish Government has failed to push for inspections on suspected US 'rendition' flights, according to Breakingnews.ie. The Government is believed to reluctant to upset the Bush administration and risk an unfavourable response.

Amnesty says it is now writing to Barack Obama and John Mc Cain asking them to ensure that Irish authorities will be allowed to carry out inspections without any negative repercussions.
