Retail Park Plan Rejected

Planning permission for a massive retail park beside the Ennis Bypass has been rejected.

The application by Galway Developer Stephen Harris for the 50 million euro project was turned down by Clare County Council on several conditions including serious concerns over flooding and sewerage capacity issues.

Clare FM reports this Wednesday that the decision by Clare County Council to reject the multi million euro retail park at Skehanagh in Clarecastle comes two years after the commercially rezoned land was bought for 18 million euro of local man JJ McCabe. During that time developer Stephen Harris faced a number of planning obstacles in relation to the site most recently the Environment Department objections over concerns about the demise of a butterfly species moved to the area to make way for the adjacent bypass.

In refusing planning permission Clare County Council cited a number of conditions, one being that the site floods and therefore unsuitable for commercial development. It also noted that the Sewerage Treatment Plant, which serves Ennis Town and its Environs, has no capacity to take any more development.
