Clare Local Authorities and the Health Service Executive today reminded water consumers in the Ennis Area to continue to observe the Partial Boil Notice, which is in place.
This announcement follows confirmation that three young children in the area have been diagnosed with Cryptosporidiosis and are now recovering. Whilst no link has been established between the illness and the water supply, caution is being advised. According to a Clare County Council spokesperson, “The Partial Boil Notice was put in place because the supply is considered to be at risk and is designed to protect children under 5, persons whose immune system might be compromised and visitors to Ennis. The Water Supply is being sampled and tested on an ongoing basis”.
In addition to the reminder regarding the Partial Boil Notice, the HSE are making GP’s and other Health Service Providers aware of the need to investigate symptoms of gastroenteritis and to report any suspected cases of the illness. Crèches in the area are also being advised about the need for vigilance.
Any queries relating to matters of public health should be forwarded to the Health Services Executive (Mid-West Area ) at 061-483338.
