Lahinch To Host 2008 Irish Student National Surfing Championships

This year the Irish Student National Surfing Championships (Intervarsities) will be held at Lahinch, and hosted by the National University of Ireland Galway Surf Club, in association with the ISA.

The event will take place on February 23rd and 24th and will involve over 300 competitors from more than 15 Irish colleges.

NUIG first claimed the title in 04/05 and last year held on to the honours, despite a strong challenge fronted by the women of UUC. The team title is contested in four different categories; open, women's, longboard and bodyboard. Upon winning the title, the college gets the privilege of hosting the event the following year and NUIG are not about to let their glory slip away easily.

The Irish Student National Surfing Championships has been up and running since 1999. First organised by Zoe Lally of the Irish Surfing Association (ISA), it has become a major event in the ISA calendar and an epic weekend in any college year. The growth of surfing in Ireland has been phenomenal over the last few years and this has been reflected in the growing numbers of college surf clubs.
