Mr Tony Killeen TD, Minister of State for Environment and Energy, today announced that Clare had received an allocation of EUR5.5m under the 2008 Rural Water Programme.
Speaking in Claregalway, where he launched his Department’s annual programme, Minister Killeen stated that the grant aid, which represents a 50% increase on last year’s allocation, would fund a wide range of schemes all over Clare. “I am delighted to be able to provide funding to support Clare County Council’s ambitious and comprehensive work programme for 2008”, he said.
The single biggest allocation of EUR1.8m is for the upgrading of group schemes at Ballymaclinaun, Cahermurphy, Carrownakilla, Clonrush, Derryvarden Extension, Glenmore/Kiltumper Kylemore North, Noughaval, Silverhill, and new group schemes to start at Brickhill East, Cloncoul, Garruragh, Hill Road, Maghera, Mountrivers and Russa. An additional EUR1.5m will be used to complete work on the four group water schemes involved in the bundled treatment plant project (Dysart/Toonagh, Killone, Kilmaley Inagh and Lissycasey).
Minister Killeen said that EUR1.3m was being allocated for upgrading group water schemes at Ballagh/Cahersherkin, Ballingaddy, Fanore, Farrihy, Lisheenfruir, Loophead Ross Section, Mountievers/Sixmilebridge and Moyasta.
“When the upgrading is completed the schemes will be taken over by Clare County Council and will become part of the public water supply network. A further EUR900k is going to Clare County Council in response to the its proposals to introduce improvements to a significant number of small public water and sewerage schemes around the county”, he explained.
