Antrim restaurants close down

Victoria Square in Belfast suffered another blow today when it was announced that two restaurants were closing immediately, reports breakingnews.ie.

Around 100 staff at Maggiano’s Italian restaurant and Chili’s were told they were losing their jobs with the immediate closure of the outlets which opened less than a year ago.

The decision came from their US parent company Brinker which announced it was closing all its UK outlets.

Canning a doubt for Kilkenny clash

Galway hurling manager John McIntyre is sweating over the fitness of Joe Canning ahead of Saturday's Leinster SHC clash with Kilkenny in Tullamore.

Canning agrivated a stomach/groin injury during a county training camp last week and has been out of action since then, reports RTE Sport.

The Portumna star has been troubled by the injury for several months now and has been getting through games thanks to painkilling injection but this latest flare up may prove to be too serious to play though.

New Bantry school opens

A new €2.8m extension has been opened at Cloghroe National School, in Blarney, County Cork.

The extension has provided the school with eight new classrooms, ancillary facilities and a general purpose room, reports Build.ie. Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe said the project came about through the "dedication and hard work" of the local community, supported by government.

"This beautiful new building will be enjoyed not only by the staff and pupils who currently work in and attend Cloghroe National School but will also be appreciated by future generations," he said.
