Clonlara man jailed for 4 years

A South East Clare man has been has been jailed for 4 years at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court after GardaĆ­ recovered almost 22,000 euro worth of drugs at his home in Clonlara.
Members of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit searched Kevin Kelly's home in Dromintobin, Clonlara following a surveillance operation at the property on the 18th of March 2007.

Clare FM News reports that the 34 year old former IT technician pleaded guilty to possession of over 2 kilos of cannabis and 620 Xanex tablets for sale or supply.

Aer Lingus scraps longhaul routes

Aer Lingus has announced a number of changes to its winter schedule, which include the scrapping of some transatlantic services.

The airline is stopping Shannon flights to Chicago from 1 September, while services from Dublin to Washington and San Francisco are being dropped from 25 October, according to RTE News. It says the restart of these services in summer next year will be 'subject to review'.

Aer Lingus is maintaining its winter schedule from Dublin to New York, Chicago and Boston, and from Shannon to Boston. But it says the Shannon to New York direct service remains 'under close review'.
