AIM-listed zinc exploration company Connemara Mining has reported pre-tax losses of €472,795 for 2008. This was an improvement from the loss figure of €624,398 the previous year as its administrative expenses fell.
The company, which is now the fourth biggest licence holder in Irish exploration with a total of 38 licences, has no debt and a cash balance of €472,278, claims RTE. It is undertaking an extensive drilling programme to progress its zinc discoveries.
Connemara has discovered zinc at its sites in Stonepark in Limerick, Lough Sheelin in Cavan and has also recently reported good results from its Castlemaine licence in Kerry.
A new policy by the North's Executive to protect the way of life on Rathlin Island while promoting its viability and sustainability was unveiled today.
Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy said during a visit to the island that it marked a new way forward for the community on Rathlin, reports Breakingnews.ie. “As our only off-shore inhabited island in the North of Ireland, we have developed in partnership with the islanders, a central government policy which recognises and sets out to address the unique challenges experienced by island life", Mr. Murphy commented.
The Rathlin policy aimed to improve the provision of public services, enhance community participation and active citizenship while ensuring the island’s sustainability for the future and conserving its exceptional environmental heritage and way of life, he said.
Two of the counties primary schools will soon see construction of permanent classrooms to replace prefabs under a pilot Government scheme.
Doolin Mixed National School and Ruan Central National School are among 58 schools across the country that have opted to use grant aid for the purchase of temporary accommodation to build permanent classrooms instead, reports Clare FM. The pilot plan allows schools to use Department grant-aid to build new classrooms instead of buying temporary units for which the money was intended.
