A Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 flying from Manchester (UK) to New York J F. K with 147 people on board was diverted to Shannon this week after a passenger fell ill.
The plan was enroute to the US about 50nm off the coast of Ireland and 130nm from Shannon, when the crew reported a medical emergency on board and decided to divert to Shannon.
The airplane landed safely on runway 20 minutes later, a male passenger was immediately treated by a waiting emergency doctor and subsequently delivered to a local hospital. The passenger had complained about chest pain prompting cabin crew to assume a heart attack. According to The Aviation Herald, the airplane continued to New York with a delay of 2.5 hours.
