14% Increase In Funding For Clare Under Housing Adaptation Grants Scheme

Minister of State, Mr Tony Killeen this week said the Government remained committed to assisting older people and people with a disability to remain in their own homes.

His comment follows the allocation of EUR1,490,000 to Clare Local Authorities under the Housing Adaptation Grants Scheme for 2009. The allocation represents a 14% increase on the grant aid received by Clare last year.

According to Minister of State Killeen, “The Housing Adaptation Grants Scheme is a worthwhile scheme as it provides invaluable assistance to older people and people with a disability living in private houses. Most importantly it helps them to live in their own communities with the dignity that they deserve”.

Mart workers strike again

Workers at the Clare Marts have returned to the picket lines today for the second consecutive day.

Sales at the Mart in Ennis yesterday had to be cancelled after several staff members went on strike in a row with management over pay and conditions. Mart workers are today striking in Kilrush.

A SIPTU spokesperson says they have been left with no choice after Labour Court recommendations were not implemented. A spokesperson for Clare Marts told Clare FM that it will be business as usual in both Kilrush today and in Ennis tomorrow despite the pickets.
