A New Training, Meeting And Office Space For County Clare

A new centre offering affordable office, meeting and training spaces has been established at the centrally located Clon Road Business Park in Ennis.

Since it was set up in January, the Clare Training Resource Centre (CTRC) has attracted a wide range of user groups from across County Clare. Currently running at the multi-purpose facility are employee training sessions, preparation for interview classes, a series of workshops focusing on women and the economy and various local and national organisation’s meetings. Users can also participate in classes in yoga, pilates, meditation, floral art, and a range of other personal development programmes. Up-coming courses include exam revision for secondary students and interior design.

“Tightening budgets brought on by the economic recession have left many community organisations and businesses with little scope to invest in training space or meeting rooms,” explained Lorraine Tracey, Training Centre Coordinator. She continued, “We are offering an affordable and accessible, high quality, multi-functional space. Our aim is to combine community values with a professional delivery. Rooms are set-up with equipment such as projectors, flipcharts and whiteboards as needed and catering services can be arranged.”

Ms. Tracey added that the new facility offered organisations and individuals the flexibility and opportunity to reserve space on a once off or on a regular basis. The CTRC is also currently providing the space for the delivery of a range of courses on behalf of its parent company the Clare Family Resource Centre (CFRC).

The CFRC runs a FÁS scheme with 21 Community Employment participants providing a wide range of staff training including Basic Childcare Training, Highscope Training, Special Needs Training, Equal Opportunities, First Aid, Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama, Manual Lifting and Handling and Health and Safety. Among the other courses delivered by the CTRC are Fire Prevention, Stay Safe Child Protection Programme, HACCP food safety, and Personal and Social Development.

According to Maureen Keane, Manager of the Clare Family Resource, “Staff training is a key element to the success and development of our staff and crèche service.” "We encourage and empower our Community Employment participants by providing these opportunities leading to Certified Childcare Training Skills, personal development and employment. Providing a suitable training environment for staff is of utmost importance to us,” stated Ms. Keane.

40 Years Of Clarecare Celebrated In West Clare

The 40th anniversary of Clarecare was celebrated at a ceremony in Kilrush yesterday evening.

Mayor of Clare Councillor Madeleine Taylor Quinn paid tribute to the organisation for coordinating and developing a range of vital services for communities throughout County Clare.

Commenting on the wide range of services provided by the organisation, “Clarecare has changed and developed since its humble beginnings. Its work with the elderly has extended into services for children and families. They include holidays for elderly people, home and hospital visits, youth clubs, transport, childcare, adoption, accommodation, and addiction and counselling services.” She continued, “Today Clarecare employs 500 full-time and part-time professional carers and 100 administrative, counselling, social work and childcare staff. In addition, over 200 volunteers throughout the county support the organisation’s work in providing a range of personal Social Services to the people of County Clare. The services are provided to families and individuals free of charge.”

Speaking at Kilrush Community Centre last evening, the Mayor paid special tribute to Clarecare Director Fiachra Hensey and Jane Coughlan of Clarecare’s Home Help service in West Clare.

According to Mayor Taylor Quinn, “There are over one hundred home carers in West Clare alone, who provide an invaluable service to hundreds of local people. They provide social, emotional and practical support to people who cannot care for themselves. Furthermore, they are very often the only social interaction that elderly people or those living alone will experience.” The Mayor added, “Clarecare provides a support service from the cradle to the grave. On behalf of the people of County Clare, I would like to thank everyone involved with the organisation for their immense contribution to local communities over the last forty years.”

Clarecare was originally established as Clare Social Service Council in 1968 with the support of Clare County Manager Joe Boland and Bishop of Killaloe, Bishop Harty. Its development was part of a national drive to coordinate and develop local services for the elderly.
