Child recovers following Tyrone dog attack

A three-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being attacked by a dog in County Tyrone.

The little girl was out walking her dog with a family member in Magheramore when the attack took place.

She sustained injuries to her neck, head and face and was brought to hospital where her wounds were described as serious but not life threatening, according to RTE.

Faith helped sextuplet mother

The mother of Ireland's first sextuplets has revealed she ignored medical advice and put her faith in God over the multiple birth.

According to Sky News, Nuala Conway, 26, from Dunamore in County Tyrone, was warned about the high risks of carrying six foetuses and was advised to abort several of them at 14 weeks.

But, in an interview with the Sunday Express, she and her husband Austin explained how they refused at allow doctors to intervene. The couple told the paper: '"They told us about the risks we faced if we went ahead with the pregnancy." "These babies are a wonderful gift from God," she said, adding: "Whatever God laid out for our lives we were taking it."

The six babies, Ursula, Austin, Shannon, Karla, Eoghan and Kerrie, were born in a successful Caesarean section birth involving 30 medical staff at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital last month.

Eight swine flu case confirmed in Northern Ireland

Another case of swine flu has been confirmed in Northern Ireland, bringing the total number of cases there to eight.

The latest diagnosis relates to a woman who had recently returned from the US. She has mild flu symptoms and is recovering at home.

The Northern Ireland Public Health Agency is arranging a follow-up of people who were in close contact with her since she developed symptoms.

Health services boost for border counties

€30m in EU funding has been secured for health services in the border region.

It will be used to finance 12 major health and social care projects, for people on both sides of the border. The money was secured from an EU programme for cross border health and social care services, according to RTE News. It will enable people living in border areas to be able to access health services in the opposite jurisdiction, which are often closer to their homes.

The allocation of the money will be managed by the Co-operation and Working Together cross border health services partnership on behalf of the Departments of Health in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Doherty's suspension is halved

Derry midfielder Fergal Doherty has had his eight-week suspension halved to four following an appearance before the Central Hearings Committee at Croke Park on Wednesday night.

The suspension came about following the Ulster SFC encounter between Derry and Monaghan on 24 May, reports RTE Sport.

Doherty used video evidence to help reduce the ban and will be available to play for Oak Leaf county again in the Ulster final on 19 July, asumming the beat Tyrone in the provincial semi-final on Sunday week.

Re-examination of Omagh evidence

Evidence in the Omagh bomb case is being re-examined to establish whether there are grounds to re-try the man acquitted of the 29 murders, police said today.

The Irish Times reports that the move has come after two officers accused of lying in the Crown Court trial of Co Armagh electrician Sean Hoey (38) two years ago were cleared by the Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman.

Earlier this week four other men were found responsible for the 1998 bombing in a landmark civil action in Belfast High Court taken by families of the victims.

Cyclist recovers from hit and run incident

A cyclist was knocked over by a hit-and-run driver during a race in Northern Ireland.

The biker sustained leg injuries when he was struck by a white van on a road outside Omagh last night. He was taking part in an event organised by a local cycling club at the time, according to breakingnews.ie.

Police are now hunting for the van driver, who did not stay at the scene. The incident took place on the Gortin Road near Molly Sweeney’s bar (pictured left) at around 7pm.

7th Swine Flu case detected in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland Health Minister Michael McGimpsey (left) has said one more case of swine flu has been confirmed.

This brings the total number of Northern Ireland cases to seven, reports RTE News. The seventh case is in a male who was a contact of a previously confirmed case. He has mild flu symptoms and is recovering at home.

The Public Health Agency is arranging a follow-up of people who were in close contact with him since he developed symptoms.
